The approach we take depends largely on how severe the matting is. We utilize a specialized detangling conditioner that can work wonders, allowing us to maintain a quarter-inch length when it initially appears that a full shave is necessary. However, there are cases—unfortunately, more frequent than we would prefer—where shaving is the only viable option, highlighting the importance of a consistent grooming schedule. We are experienced to handle dogs with significant matting, including those that other salons have declined to service. This process can be quite distressing for the pet. In some instances, there may be swelling or bruising beneath the fur, and once circulation improves, it can lead to itching, irritation, and potential skin infections. We are eager to share the right techniques, tools, and products to assist you in maintaining your pet's coat between grooming sessions. While hair will eventually regrow, the bond of trust between your pet and us may diminish if we cause discomfort by tugging at their mats.
It's important to note that some tangles can become solidified matting pretty fast during the coat transition period (9-12 months). We are more than willing to assist you in managing severe matting situations for the first time in your pup's life. However, if you are unable to maintain your dog's coat in sutisfactory condition and cannot adhere to a grooming schedule of at least every 8 weeks, we may not be the best fit for you.
